Loving what you do

My friend and I started this business 4 years ago out of an experience she had. She had finally decided she wanted to do something for herself. Something completely unlike her but she wanted the experience.

She wanted to get some gorgeous images of herself to have later in life and hoped to get an experience all about her, one she would be excited to describe to everyone she knows.

Well, she scheduled her appointment and had her session and it was………absolutely awful!

She arrived at the location and instead of an elegant, beautiful place it was cold and uninviting. Cold brick walls and a less than appealing bathroom to change in. She had her hair and makeup done prior and was ready to have her session. But THIS was NOT what she had expected.

The photographer did not engage her. She didn’t show her that she cared at all about her and what she was doing. My friend posed as she was told, made expressions she thought would look good and made it through her session.

In the end, she hated her images. She felt nothing for them. She thought her face looked old and unhappy. They were absolutely not living up to her expectations. Needless to say, she didn’t purchase  a single image!

And THAT is where we began. She described her experience to me and how disappointed she was, then she said “we could do this!” So we began planning!

Between my photography skills and her makeup skills, we succeeded! We made our business to revolve around our clients. We do for them in every way. We love our clients and we show it. We love what we do and we show it. We love the way we make our clients feel and THEY show it. It is written on the face of each of their images.

THAT is what my friend wanted. THAT is what we give our clients. THAT is what we can do for you!

Interesting ideas

This image!

We had a client recently, she was a lovely lady. We had our pre-consultation with her and it was a great conversation. She told us why she needed this and about her life at home with you 2 young children and up coming wedding. We could not wait to make this session happen for her.

In her words ‘she needed this’. Then she began giving us some of her ideas for the session. Most of them were similar to previous sessions. But then she mentioned her love of bow hunting.

She has been an avid hunter for several years (which I find fascinating, not a common practice for women). But it’s something she did and thoroughly enjoyed. Then she told us she really wanted a sexy photo that she could express this side of her in and she definitely wanted her prized possession in it……her bow!

At first my partner and I kinda gave each other that look. If you have a business partner, you know what look. The one where we try not to be obvious but buy each others LOOK we know what they are thinking and we were both thinking ‘what will we do with that?’.

But our client had an idea. She told us the look she was after and we shot it for her. We got this gorgeous image. It is not one I would have thought I would like but I actually love it!

It shows a gorgeous sexy woman who loves something that is typically a man’s thang and she owned it! She made this bow look sleek and sexy and all her. EMPOWERING! That is what we love about doing what we do. Empowering our clients and showing off their best selves.

What can you get from a boudoir or glamour portrait session?

Okay we have all felt it. We wake up put on our big girl panties go take a look in the mirror and there it is………the girl that you are just looks back as a girl you don’t like. One you see as a boring, everyday, dumpy feeling girl next door and you don’t really like her. I hate to say but I would bet that women have more days of that feeling than the one where you wake up, look at yourself and know that you ARE THE BOMB!

We all have so many of those days and we deserve better! We deserve a day to get up, forget about the everyday activities of life and be pampered and feel good about well…..us.

This feeling is exactly the thing we love to tackle in our business. We photograph women in all walks of life, from waitress, to secretary, to business professional, to stay at home moms. Regardless of their  lifestyle, each woman we get has the same issues. These are all gorgeous women. But each one of them has something or even a lot of things they just do not like about themselves. Or they have been so busy on a day to day basis that they are never even able to dress their best or put on the makeup they know makes them look super hot!

That’s where we come in. The moment you make contact with us we are all about you. We meet you and get to know you. We see our clients as soon to be friends. We want to know what makes you exactly who you are. This way we can give you super service and give you exactly what you are looking for. We are there for you along the entire process. You can call or text us with anything you need to get ready. We will even help you with wardrobe should you need it. We want your session to be perfect for YOU!

On the day of the session as soon as you meet us you hop right into the makeup chair. We give you a look that you will love, whether it be a dark and sultry smokey eye or the more natural and airy look some women prefer. Either way, we will give you your best look for the camera (including some gorgeous eyelashes). We know what it takes to get that awesome shot! We will give your hair a bouncy lift or flowing curls for beautiful locks no matter the length.

Once hair and makeup are done we move to you first outfit and start your session. This is the point where if we do our very best to get you to relax and let us work. We will pose you from head to toe. No need for you to worry or stress because we got you!

This is an experience like no other and gives you absolutely gorgeous images. These images are something you will have for a lifetime. Anytime you are feeling less that perfect or in that dumpy feeling moment, just pull these beautiful images out and look at the gorgeous person you are! You will look at them and KNOW what a little love for yourself can do! So go ahead, do it! Contact us and let us do that for you. Let us give you this gift of a lifetime, you deserve it!                                     Fort Smith Glamour photographerAfterFort Smith Photographer

Be ye not ashamed

Well it’s that time again……….bikini season. How does that make you feel? After spending a long, cold winter covered up and warm it’s time to bare all and enjoy your summer in the sun. Unfortunately, for so many women, bikini season strikes fear at our very heart.  But why?

It’s all due to shame. Shame: a condition of humiliating disgrace or disrepute which is the lack of respect from others. In all actuality, do our bodies in a bikini deserve this much power? Why do we allow something so superficial and only skin deep have this much rule over our life?

Why do women have shame for the one body that is theirs and theirs alone? Your body has scars, it has dimples, it has marks, it has blemishes and it has no other copy. No two are alike, just like a snowflake, every body is different and like no other and it helps make you exactly who you are. And that my dears is NOT shameful.

I have come to realize most all women have a bit of cellulite they are not proud of, most all have a stretch mark or blemish that the owner does their best to cover up. And we cover up, why? So no one else can see! So no can look at you, see that horrible mark and look at you with……you know the word………SHAME!

Why as women do we do this? We need to be proud of our bodies and we need to look at other women and build them up. Stop the cycle of shame, be proud of your marks, dimples and lines. They make you the wonderful woman you are. They are a map to the life you have lived. The accomplishments of motherhood or the scar left behind from your body making a miraculous recovery.

Our bodies do not show the beauty that hides beneath the surface. They don’t show the wonderful personality that is what makes you, you. I challenge you…..next time you see a woman in a bikini and are thinking of why she shouldn’t be wearing it, make a cognitive change. Look at her and think what a beautiful person and be proud for her, be happy for her that she is not ashamed of the person she is and the marks that make her body hers.

Boudoir……..it’s not about sex!

Let me just speak my mind a little bit here…..

Yes, we do boudoir photo shoots. Yes, women are in gorgeous underwear. And yes, the photos are taken in a bedroom BUT it is not about sex.

Okay, the images do turn out beautiful and sexy but that is just an added bonus. The boudoir session is about each and every lovely lady that chooses to do one, individually. The images we take are classy, tasteful and all about empowering our client. They are not porn or dirty in any way or form. They are uplifting, confidence building and totally fun.

I am very discouraged by the bias many people have that these sessions are in someway “dirty”. I don’t want to have anything to do with “dirty”. I’m a wife and mom of 2 teenage daughters, there is no way I want to be a part of something that exploits anyone. Each woman we photograph leaves us completely happy with her choice. We don’t share photos unless the client signs a waiver saying they are okay with it. Even then we will only share ones that I wouldn’t mind my teens seeing and only for the purpose of showing our portfolio to potential clients.

It’s all about the beautiful women in the images. It’s all about seeing their gorgeous faces in astonishment and joy of the beauty they see in the image. Their, “is that me??”, reaction is priceless and is the reason we absolutely love doing these sessions. I can’t begin to explain the emotion we have for each of our clients. It’s just inspiring and it is a pleasure to be a part of each and every one of the journeys to beauty these women have.

Each session is taylored to the individual needs and expectations of our clients. We begin with the inquiry. Our goal is to meet each client before any money exchanges hands. We like to get to know them, listen to them, suggest to them and get a really good idea of what they want and expect from their session. By the time we are doing makeup and getting ready for the shoot we know them and they know us. We guide them through the entire process. We want each woman as comfortable as possible, giving them an awesome experience and beautiful images. They are able to go through and choose images that they want and nothing they don’t. It’s all about the individual.

Our work is all about the client and making her as happy as we can. It’s not about sex, it’s about each person and their experience of this journey to the confident and empowered woman. From the working mom, to the stay at home mom, to the medical professional, to the lawyer and each and every woman in between that wants this experience, that is who we want to shoot. ANY woman is the perfect woman for a boudoir session. Each and every woman IS beautiful.

Just a little glimpse

Sarah 28

This is just a little glimpse at our recent session with Sarah. She came in like so many others. She was nervous, of course but excited and anxious at the same time. It was something she had wanted to do to embrace her fear and beauty. It didn’t take long. She was a bit shaky at first but with a little coaching and fun she relaxed pretty quickly and it was apparent in her images.

Many women would love to have images like this taken but shy away due to fear. That fear comes from so many things. The fear of baring oneself physically and emotionally. The fear of what her images will look like. Fear of being stereotyped in a certain way. These fears can be deep rooted and hard to overcome. But once all these fears are conquered…..it is very empowering.

             Sarah 11                                                   Sarah 12

We strive to rid each women we shoot of all the fears. We enjoy the moment and the subject in front of us. We do our very best to help them relax and get the images they will be proud of. It’s a little journey we take with each woman and it is very inspiring.

We love the end of the session, once we are showing our clients all their images, the smiles! That is the moment that each woman is the most beautiful. They see themselves (maybe for the first time) as beautiful! Their confidence grows in that moment and it is obvious and the look of confidence is simply…….gorgeous! If only we could take that moment and bottle it then sell it to others.

In a way, we can. We can give each woman that comes to us this opportunity. We can give them the chance to see themselves in this light, to see how totally awesome and beautiful they are. It is a great feeling we get from each of our clients AND is the reason we love doing this so much.

So, here is the little glimpse we wanted to share of the beautiful images we got from this session. It started out with nervous energy but ended with a happy and confident client.

No ‘body’ is perfect

Picture Perfect Photography

If there is one resounding note that I have discovered in the world of portrait photography and especially boudoir photography is that every woman we meet has something about their face or body they don’t like. Even the woman in the image shown here had them. I see beauty and they see imperfection.

I recall when I was a young girl I was very shy and self conscious. I was a little round and somewhat plain in my eyes. Every woman and young girl around me has faced these issues. I, to this day, still have many of those thoughts. I am the oldest of 3 sisters and the mother of 2 teenage daughters and I photograph women of all ages. I have seen and heard about this too many times to count. When my eyes see a beautiful girl and all I hear from her mouth is a stream of things she sees as wrong or ugly when she looks in the mirror, it’s just sad. I guess beauty being in the eye of the beholder couldn’t ring more true.

The key is to change the eye of the beholder. I wonder if there will ever come a time in the future when women are able to make this change and look at their reflections in the mirror and say ‘that is me and I am BEAUTIFUL’? I feel that this is a far reaching goal or possibly even a dream. I am not sure at what point along the way that this has become the mindset of women but it definitely happened.

We have been exposed to so much judgement about looks and body image. The ‘perfect’ body, as portrayed in society, is unattainable. I would go as far as to say that, even if a woman had that ‘perfect’ body she would still find something in the mirror to pick at. When will this be a thing of the past?

Raising 2 teenage girls in this society is quite the challenge. It is almost totally up to parents and family to fill their children with self confidence, raise them to see the beauty they have inside and out. It is NOT an easy task. They are exposed on every other side with the world’s ideas and that is hard to overcome. But repetition can work wonders. The more it’s said the more it’s heard and even believed.

To change these ideas we each have to do our part. We must build people up, don’t tear them down. It’s like that with any change that needs to be made. One little step at a time, one individual at a time. We need to switch focus from looks to health and well being. I certainly don’t have the answers on how to make this happen. But I can make the change within myself.

I can make sure my kids know how beautiful I think they are. And I can do that with every other person I come in contact with. A change of this nature in society CAN happen the question is WILL it happen?

I know I will do my part and WE will do our part! We work to make every woman that comes to us feel beautiful. Be it in a Boudoir session, Portrait session or a High School Senior session our focus is on our client. We make each of them FEEL beautiful and do our best to empower them with that. That’s our mission and it’s one I am proud of.
