Interesting ideas

We had a client recently, she was a lovely lady. We had our pre-consultation with her and it was a great conversation. She told us why she needed this and about her life at home with you 2 young children and up coming wedding. We could not wait to make this session happen for her.

In her words ‘she needed this’. Then she began giving us some of her ideas for the session. Most of them were similar to previous sessions. But then she mentioned her love of bow hunting.

She has been an avid hunter for several years (which I find fascinating, not a common practice for women). But it’s something she did and thoroughly enjoyed. Then she told us she really wanted a sexy photo that she could express this side of her in and she definitely wanted her prized possession in it……her bow!

At first my partner and I kinda gave each other that look. If you have a business partner, you know what look. The one where we try not to be obvious but buy each others LOOK we know what they are thinking and we were both thinking ‘what will we do with that?’.

But our client had an idea. She told us the look she was after and we shot it for her. We got this gorgeous image. It is not one I would have thought I would like but I actually love it!

It shows a gorgeous sexy woman who loves something that is typically a man’s thang and she owned it! She made this bow look sleek and sexy and all her. EMPOWERING! That is what we love about doing what we do. Empowering our clients and showing off their best selves.

Be ye not ashamed

Well it’s that time again……….bikini season. How does that make you feel? After spending a long, cold winter covered up and warm it’s time to bare all and enjoy your summer in the sun. Unfortunately, for so many women, bikini season strikes fear at our very heart.  But why?

It’s all due to shame. Shame: a condition of humiliating disgrace or disrepute which is the lack of respect from others. In all actuality, do our bodies in a bikini deserve this much power? Why do we allow something so superficial and only skin deep have this much rule over our life?

Why do women have shame for the one body that is theirs and theirs alone? Your body has scars, it has dimples, it has marks, it has blemishes and it has no other copy. No two are alike, just like a snowflake, every body is different and like no other and it helps make you exactly who you are. And that my dears is NOT shameful.

I have come to realize most all women have a bit of cellulite they are not proud of, most all have a stretch mark or blemish that the owner does their best to cover up. And we cover up, why? So no one else can see! So no can look at you, see that horrible mark and look at you with……you know the word………SHAME!

Why as women do we do this? We need to be proud of our bodies and we need to look at other women and build them up. Stop the cycle of shame, be proud of your marks, dimples and lines. They make you the wonderful woman you are. They are a map to the life you have lived. The accomplishments of motherhood or the scar left behind from your body making a miraculous recovery.

Our bodies do not show the beauty that hides beneath the surface. They don’t show the wonderful personality that is what makes you, you. I challenge you…..next time you see a woman in a bikini and are thinking of why she shouldn’t be wearing it, make a cognitive change. Look at her and think what a beautiful person and be proud for her, be happy for her that she is not ashamed of the person she is and the marks that make her body hers.

Every woman is amazing and they don’t even realize it!

We recently had an awesome session with a lovely bride. She was beautiful, sweet, happy and simply gorgeous inside and out. It was a pleasure working with her. She was almost a natural at being in front of a camera, yet she still had so many things she didn’t like about herself.

I have yet to understand why we as women have found ourselves in the constant state of lack of self confidence. Our wish is to change this…..even if it’s one woman at a time.

This is an image of this beautiful bride. She wanted to give a special gift to her groom. We absolutely loved every image we got of her, but she still had issues with them. It amazed me. Each time this happens I want and try so badly to show them, tell them and make them believe all the beauty they possess. It is and remains a work in progress with every client we have.

I love this job and the images we capture at Picture Perfect. We love working with each and every woman that contacts us. I feel it is a blessing to be able to use what we do to build up the self confidence that so many women seem to lack.

Every woman is amazing and beautiful. Now all we have to do is figure out a way for EVERY woman of EVERY shape, size and age to believe that. Belief is the biggest asset anyone can have. If you believe it of yourself you will exude that. People will see it and know the confidence you have in yourself and that is beautiful.

This is our goal and what we strive for each time we do a glamour/portrait or boudoir session. Each session of this nature is a huge step in the direction of self confidence for every woman we shoot and we are thrilled to be able to share in their journey.

It’s YOUR boudoir session! What do you need to know?

So, you want to have a boudoir session? I say, THAT is an excellent idea!! (And by all means come see us here at Picture Perfect Photography, wink, wink). There is no other day you can take for you, that can do more to boost your self esteem, give you a happy feeling and allow that to spill over into all other aspects of your life. But there are so many questions and wonderings!

If you are like me, you like to have a plan. You like going into something with an idea of what to expect. You want to know you have done what is necessary and beneficial ahead of time to get the biggest bang for your buck. You want to know you did what you could to help make your experience that WOW experience you are after. There can be great fear in the unknown.

Well, I am going to help with some of those wants and wonderings. First of all, you need to book your session at least 3-4 weeks before you need your finished products. You have to give the photographer time to go through your session photos and to pick, edit, show you and order the products you want.  You don’t want to be stressing over cutting time short and not getting your products when you need them.

You also need to go get that mani and pedi done. For Pete’s sake, go all out and treat yourself! Get this done a day or 2 before your session. The polish you use can make an impact as well. It is best to go with neutral and calm tones. Bright polish can put the focus of a photo on your hands and feet. More than likely, those are not the parts you want to be accentuated.

Be sure to drink plenty of water so that you are good and hydrated the day of your session. This can do absolute wonders for the look of your skin in your photographs. Hydrated skin is beautiful and healthy skin and it can even help with any bags under your eyes. And please, NO SPRAY TANS, unless you really like looking orange. This can be a real problem in pictures, and look very, well…….yucky.

I highly suggest having your makeup and hair done professionally. Besides being an awesome experience for yourself (who doesn’t want that) it can make your photographers job a bit easier AND help make your photos even that much more awesome! Decide if you want a sensual, glamorous or natural look in your photos and let the makeup artist and hair designer know what you are after, so they can make you up accordingly.

Okay, it’s time to get ready to go get it done! But you think, WHAT AM I GONNA WEAR?! Well hopefully, you have talked with your photographer and done your homework to pick outfits that fit the look you want. When you make your decision, make sure they fit your body but not too tightly. Tight clothes leave way too many creases in your skin and look a little awkward on camera. Also, if you have any sheer, see through items, make sure to remove any and all tags, no one wants to see silly tags peeking through in a photo.

If your photographer or you have any close up shots you want to get done it’s best to arrive at your session in loose fitting clothing and possibly a strapless bra. The less lines or marks on the skin the better the picture will be. And your photographer will love you even more! A button down shirt is a must as well, you don’t want to have to drag a shirt up and over your beautiful makeup and hair to get changed. Discuss your favorite features with your photographer to make sure those areas get preferential treatment, because making you happy is what we are after here.

And now my biggest, most hugest tip……..are you ready???

RELAX, RELAX, RELAX! The more tension and stress you have the more rigid your body is and you can see that tension all over you in your photographs. Just enjoy yourself, breathe, laugh and have fun! All of that will show up on camera and you will have that WOW factor you are hoping for.
