“Oh I would love to have a session with you but……….. I need to lose 20 pounds, I need to gather up the courage, I need to get more money together, I hate the way I look in photographs, I don’t need any images of myself.”

Lacie 5 web saying

We have heard excuse after excuse that people offer up to keep from scheduling a shoot with us. And I am certain there are many others to come, but I want to say that none of them are excuse enough.

I say we as women need to EXIST IN PHOTOS!  We take pictures of our kids, of our parents, of our spouses and pets, yet we miss out on the idea that we need to be in the images too.

Have you ever thought of what you are leaving behind? Have you ever thought of how it will feel when you are 10 years older, 20 years older or even 50 years older and you look back to find so very few images of the younger versions of you?

Have you thought about what it will be like when you are older and have so little to show your kids and grand kids about how you used to be? So little to show your progression in age, of how you became the you that you will be.

It is time for us to EXIST IN PHOTOS! Your family, your kids, your grand kids and even you deserve to have images with you in them. You all deserve to have absolutely beautiful and gorgeous images of YOU!

There is no need to loose that weight you THINK that you need to loose. You are a thing of beauty as you are. You don’t need to gather courage, you are strong and confident and we will help you. You don’t need more money, we offer payment plans for that. You may hate the way you look, but I promise we can make you love the way you look in your images. You may not thing you need images of yourself, but you do and so does your family.

Your family and you deserve to have images of you that you love. And later when you are older you will have that priceless portrait of YOU in all your beauty. You can have it to show kids and grand kids and even more importantly than that, your family will have those images to cherish for a lifetime once you are gone. This is the most priceless aspect of beautiful images.

It is the emotion behind them. The love that can be shown and held there for many lifetimes to come. Images of those we love are priceless, why else would you take all the phone images you do? Why else would it be so traumatic to lose those pictures when a computer or phone fails? These reasons are also why it is so important to have an actual physical portrait. Something that can’t be lost to a virus infected computer. A beautiful portrait on the wall to show off for a lifetime.

There are so many reasons to get beautiful images of you and to #EXISTINPHOTOGRAPHS, so what exactly are you waiting for? What is your excuse?

Well, that is not a good enough reason. Just do it and EXIST IN PHOTOS!

The Perry Family

We are glamour and boudoir portrait photographers BUT sometimes…..yes…..we do families. And this is a family that is dear to my heart, she’s my sister! Yes we don’t always do family sessions, but when we do they are gorgeous!

I have grown to love capturing images in the evening sun. Whether it be the sun beams, a backdrop of the sun in the image or back lit  I think they all make beautiful images. I absolutely love the warmth this kind of ‘golden hour’ sun gives. And for this family to be able to have these images  forever will be absolutely awesome. This was a fun session and it makes me more open to doing more 🙂

You have to take a break!

As I sit trying to decide my next blogging topic I’m interrupted several times with different questions and conversations about the upcoming trip I am taking to Florida with my 2 daughters and my mom. As I answer the various questions and get a little irritated with the interruption I think, ‘I need this break!’.

We live our lives so wrapped up in the day to day living. Going here, taking one kid there, checking on the details of another’s evening, working, making dinner, cleaning and (as in my case) working on the continuing start up of a business (I am determined to make succeed). In the midst of all of that we have to take some time away and get a break.

In all actuality, I can not wait to take this trip. I just love going places and experiencing the new and different things we find, with my family. The memories that are made will last our entire lives. A break from the usual and all that it contains, is one of the best gifts you can give yourself and your family. A moment like this is worth so much more than almost any other gift you can give.

We are going to the beach for 2 days then heading to Universal Studios in Orlando. I am taking my mom, who like me, is slightly obsessed with anything Harry Potter. I can not wait to see her face as she takes it all in. Being there, with her and my kids, will be so very, totally awesome! The crazy thing is, before we even leave for this trip I am looking at plans for a cruise in the Spring. I looooooove my breaks! And I am so thankful that God has blessed me with being able to take them.

But even small breaks and change in the routine can give you these gifts. We all need to be a little selfish now and then and take some time for us. Take some time and get away from the life sucking monotony and breathe a little life back into us. You will be the better for it and all those around you even get to enjoy some of the benefits. It’s a win, win…….so take a break, would ya?!

(I thought I would put some pictures here so you can put a face with all this hub bub)

Be ye not ashamed

Well it’s that time again……….bikini season. How does that make you feel? After spending a long, cold winter covered up and warm it’s time to bare all and enjoy your summer in the sun. Unfortunately, for so many women, bikini season strikes fear at our very heart.  But why?

It’s all due to shame. Shame: a condition of humiliating disgrace or disrepute which is the lack of respect from others. In all actuality, do our bodies in a bikini deserve this much power? Why do we allow something so superficial and only skin deep have this much rule over our life?

Why do women have shame for the one body that is theirs and theirs alone? Your body has scars, it has dimples, it has marks, it has blemishes and it has no other copy. No two are alike, just like a snowflake, every body is different and like no other and it helps make you exactly who you are. And that my dears is NOT shameful.

I have come to realize most all women have a bit of cellulite they are not proud of, most all have a stretch mark or blemish that the owner does their best to cover up. And we cover up, why? So no one else can see! So no can look at you, see that horrible mark and look at you with……you know the word………SHAME!

Why as women do we do this? We need to be proud of our bodies and we need to look at other women and build them up. Stop the cycle of shame, be proud of your marks, dimples and lines. They make you the wonderful woman you are. They are a map to the life you have lived. The accomplishments of motherhood or the scar left behind from your body making a miraculous recovery.

Our bodies do not show the beauty that hides beneath the surface. They don’t show the wonderful personality that is what makes you, you. I challenge you…..next time you see a woman in a bikini and are thinking of why she shouldn’t be wearing it, make a cognitive change. Look at her and think what a beautiful person and be proud for her, be happy for her that she is not ashamed of the person she is and the marks that make her body hers.

Simple Inspiration

Beauty in movement

When I was a girl I was a tomboy. I loved to run, climb, jump and more than anything, ride my horse. I loved to play and have fun doing simple things. I think there is an inherent beauty in the simple things and simple motions and to be able to capture an interesting photo with simple things can be beautiful.

I love trying different types of movement to see what I can get in an image. In each portrait session we do at Picture Perfect Photography I try to do something to capture some kind of motion. It doesn’t always work out but sometimes it is the best image of the session. They are usually very appealing to the eye.

I love the photograph shown above! I look at it and I feel so many different things. I imagine what she is thinking as she turns and turns. I think about what it was like when I was a child and did this very same thing. I think of the simplicity of the motion and of how ANYONE can do it, no matter the age.

You can find inspiration there, in the simplest of actions.  I think ‘simple’ things can bring about some of the best inspiration a person can have. In our society we have done away with simple. Everything we do has become more involved and technical. Even though many things have made life easier there is nothing simple about them. Things may happen with the push of a button but there was nothing simple about making that possible.

I miss simple. I love a simple country atmosphere, looking at bugs and dust in sunrays, there is beauty there if you open your eyes and see it. I love the emotion and joy that can come from simple smells, like fresh mown grass or the start of rain on a hot summer day. Beauty in the ‘simple’ things can inspire any number of things in a person.

We all need to take a little time to enjoy the simple things. Spinning in circles, smelling flowers and watching it rain. Things like this clear the mind and heal the soul and leave you completely open and vulnerable to simple inspiration.
